Security operatives on Monday disrupted a scheduled meeting of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ordering members to vacate the National Secretariat in Abuja.

The operatives, deployed in large numbers, stormed the NEC Hall where the meeting was to take place and directed all present to leave immediately.

Eyewitnesses reported that some BoT members were seen standing outside the hall, quietly discussing the development.

A senior officer was overheard instructing his team to ensure no meetings were held anywhere within the premises.

“Make sure nobody is in the hall. I heard there’s another hall upstairs — make sure nobody is meeting there,” he ordered.

The incident comes amid escalating tensions within the party following the 2023 presidential primaries, which left the PDP deeply divided.

The latest flashpoint in the internal crisis revolves around the dispute over who holds the position of National Secretary, with acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum and Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja, reportedly leading opposing factions within the National Working Committee (NWC).

As at press time, there had been no official statement from the party regarding the disruption.
