Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has issued a stern warning to local government chairmen against diverting subsidized fertilizers meant for farmers across the state.

The warning came during the official flag-off of the 2025 wet season fertilizer distribution exercise held at the premises of Al Yuma Company in Madobi Local Government Area.

The event marked the commencement of fertilizer distribution to farmers across all 44 local government areas of the state.

A statement issued on Sunday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Mustapha Muhammad, quoted the Governor as emphasizing that the fertilizers were procured at subsidized rates through a collaborative effort between the state and local governments to boost food production and support farmers.

He made it clear that any attempt to divert the fertilizers would be met with the full weight of the law.

“I strongly urge members of the local distribution committees to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability in carrying out this important responsibility,” the Governor stated.

He stressed that the fertilizers are strictly for supporting agricultural productivity and not for personal enrichment.

Governor Yusuf also encouraged farmers to promptly report any incidents of diversion or misconduct to the appropriate authorities.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to agricultural development, Governor Yusuf noted that the government will continue to provide essential farming inputs, including fertilizers, to help improve food security and the livelihoods of farmers.

In addition to input support, the Governor said his administration is working to ensure farmers have access to markets, financing, and other necessary resources to enhance agricultural productivity across the state.
