I Remain Legitimate Senator – Natasha

News Desk

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has denounced her six-month suspension from the Nigerian Senate as unjust and a violation of natural justice, fairness, and equity.

It could be recalled that the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions recommended the suspension which takes effect from 6 March 2025 following allegations of “gross misconduct” and violations of Senate rules.

Senator Natasha had presented a petition to the Senate, however, the Senate’s ethics committee dismissed Natasha’s sexual harassment petition on procedural grounds, leading to her suspension.

As part of the disciplinary measures, her salary and security details have been withdrawn, and she is barred from accessing the National Assembly premises for the duration of the suspension.

In response, Natasha took to social media, asserting that the action does not diminish her legitimacy as a senator.

She said: “Against the culture of silence, intimidation, and victim-shaming, my unjust suspension from the Nigerian Senate invalidates the principles of natural justice, fairness, and equity.”

She further emphasized her commitment to serving her constituents, declaring, “I will continue to use my duly elected position to serve my constituents and country to the best of my ability till 2027… and beyond.”

Senator Natasha has filed a lawsuit against Senate President Akpabio, seeking N100 billion in damages. She remains resolute in her stance, challenging the actions taken against her and reaffirming her dedication to her legislative duties and constituents.
