1st March every year is World Civil Defense Day.
This year’s theme is “Civil Defence, guarantee of security for the population.”
Part of the objectives of the celebration of World Civil Defense Day is to among things is to raise awareness about disaster preparedness, prevention, and response, to foster community participation and engagement in emergency response measures, to highlight the role of civil defense in ensuring public safety, and to recognize and appreciate the dedication of officers towards the Corps mission.
In Kano the State Commandant, NSCDC Kano Command, Comdt Shafi’u Abdulmumini participated in a road walk to enlighten the public about the pivotal role that NSCDC has been playing in maintaining law and order.
The trek which covered some kilometers was also participated by senior management staff and officers and men in the company of the command’s band crew entertaining personnel.
Addressing officers shortly after the sensitization walk, Comdt Shafi’u assured residents of Kano that the Corps operatives will continue to work efficiently in ensuring the safety of lives and property particularly now that the Ramadan fast has begun.
“We’ll also redouble efforts in ensuring the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure,” he said.
A series of activities have been lined up to celebrate World Civil Defence Day in Kano, with a special prayer offered at the Jum’at mosque on Friday in Kwankwasiyya City led by the Chief Imam of the mosque, Barrister Sheikh Habibu Dan Almajiri.
He prayed that Almighty Allah to guide, strengthen, and protect the personnel of the Corps in the discharge of their duties.
A special church service will be held on Sunday.
The International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO) incorporated World Civil Defense Day on 1st March 1990 to raise awareness about the importance of civil protection and preparedness measures in case of large-scale disasters or accidents.
