The Kano State Chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has recognized Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as the most labor-friendly governor in the state’s history.
The NLC presented the Governor with a trophy in acknowledgment of his administration’s dedication and significant efforts to enhance the welfare of workers and pensioners in Kano.
This recognition was announced in a statement issued on Friday by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The NLC Chairman, Comrade Kabiru Inuwa, presented the trophy and medal to the Governor during a ceremony at the Kano Government House.
The event also featured the presentation of a N5 billion cheque to the State Pension Trustees Fund for clearing the backlog of gratuities inherited from the previous administration.
Comrade Inuwa praised Governor Yusuf’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare, highlighting the implementation of a new minimum wage of N71,000 and the increase in pension allowances from N5,000 to N20,000.
He described these measures as exemplary and deserving of recognition.
He added that the award was a gesture of appreciation for the governor’s contributions to workers and pensioners and a recognition of his efforts toward overall human development in the state.
Comrade Inuwa further commended the strong relationship between the Governor and the labour union since the beginning of his tenure, emphasizing that the governor has surpassed the expectations of Kano citizens through his outstanding performance.
Among the dignitaries who spoke at the event were the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa; the President of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Comrade Godwin Agurisi (represented by Assent Thomas Sunday); the National President of the Medical and Health Workers’ Union, Comrade Kabiru Ado Minjibir; and the Emir of Karaye, His Royal Highness Muhammadu Muhammad Mahraz.
The ceremony was attended by prominent journalists, editors, professors, and other distinguished guests from within and outside the country who praised Governor Yusuf’s remarkable contributions to the development of the state.
