The 8 Division Nigerian Army and Federal Road Safety Corps Command Sokoto played a novelty football match on Sunday at Giginya Barrack to enhance synergy between the two security outfits.
Speaking shortly after the match which ended 1:0 in favour of the host, the Eagle of the 8 Division Nigerian Army, the Acting General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose, pledged to enhance the already existing ties with sister security agencies far beyond a friendly football game.
He stressed the importance of maintaining a strong working relationship and synergy between the Nigerian Army and FRSC for effective service delivery.
Represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff Administration of the 8 Division, Colonel C.C Nnogwu, the GOC noted that the relationship between the military and FRSC should go beyond a novelty match.
“I urge the personnel of the Nigerian Army and the Federal Road Safety Corp to maintain a strong relationship with each other, not just in football matches”
Ajose however called on other sister security agents in the state to feel free to make use of the sporting facilities in the Gingiya Barracks for their routine exercise
The army chief said robust and effective collaboration among security agencies would go a long way in achieving success in the fight against terrorists operating in the northwest.
He commended the Federal Road Safety Corps for initiating this friendly football match, which he said was in line with the Nigeria Army’s programs aimed at promoting tactical collaboration in the fight against banditry.
In his comments, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp, Abdullahi Maikano stressed the significance of participating in every contest to promote unity and synergy among security personnel.
He appreciated the leadership of the 8 Division, Nigerian Army, for honouring FRSC’s request for a friendly football match with the Army personnel aimed at boosting cooperation and synergy among security agencies in the state.
“In the future, more events will be organized to promote cooperation and enhanced working relationships among security agencies.
The Deputy Chairman of the Sokoto State Football Association and Member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly representing Rabah Constituency, Hon Abdullahi Zakari, praised the military’s gesture in promoting harmony and working synergy among security agencies in Sokoto State.
He said the plan is in the pipeline to expand the novelty match to involve all the military and para-military formations in the state to promote unity and enhanced working relationships.
