The Kano Shari’a Court No. 1 sitting in Kofar Kudu of Kano Municipality has sentenced seven men to various jail terms for smashing the head of a policeman during arrest.
They were arraigned before the court by Tudun Maliki and Sheka communities over alleged drug dealing and charged with conspiracy, civil disturbance, inflicting injury, preventing police from carrying out their lawful duty and hiding a suspect.
When the charges were read to them by the state counsel, Barrister Aliya Ibrahim Aminu, one of the defendants pleaded not guilty, while Idris Ado and five others admitted to some and denied others.
Delivering judgment, Khadi Shamsuddeen Ado Abdullahi Unguwar Gini, sentenced them to three months for the first offence and three months for the second offence, all without the option of a fine.
He also sentenced them to another three months with a fine of N15,000, and that all three sentences should each receive 20 lashes of the cane.
They are also to be kept in bondage for six months, when they will be clearing culverts in their ward.
