Retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Abutu Yaro, has called on the people of Igala/Bassa Kingdom to unite and rally behind the current state and federal administrations to attract meaningful development and fully benefit from the dividends of democracy.

He appealed on Saturday during a courtesy visit by the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Comrade Joel Salifu, to his residence in Anyigba, Dekina Local Government Area.

AIG Yaro emphasized the need for the Igala people to take pride in the leadership of Governor Usman Ododo and his Deputy, describing them as community-rooted elites who have shown a strong commitment to governance.

He noted that now is the time for the Igala Kingdom to reengage with the government and adopt a renewed sense of purpose to secure developmental strides.

He cautioned that if the political posture of the Igala people remains at odds with the direction of both state and federal governments, the region risks being left behind.

He encouraged both the youth and elite to set aside personal ambitions and work together in support of the current administration for the greater good.

AIG Yaro also urged political leaders to reconcile with aggrieved individuals whose actions may be undermining the image of the Igala/Bassa people, warning that internal division could limit their ability to negotiate for better representation and opportunities at both state and national levels.

He expressed strong confidence in Governor Ododo’s leadership, pledging his full support for the APC and the current administration’s success.

Also speaking at the gathering, Hon. John Urah Ikani, Executive Chairman of Dekina Local Government Area, commended the Governor and his team for their impactful governance within a short time.

He also expressed gratitude for retaining the position of Zonal APC Chairman in Dekina, promising continued loyalty and support.

Similarly, Hon. Ogwu Abdul Alhassan, Acting Zonal Vice Chairman of the APC in Kogi East, thanked the Governor and Deputy Governor for his appointment, pledging to live up to expectations and contribute positively to the party’s growth.

In his remarks, Deputy Governor Joel Salifu emphasized that distancing a community from its government often leads to underdevelopment.

He urged the people of Kogi East to support the current administration to ensure their communities benefit from ongoing projects and plans.

He noted that despite the political leanings of the zone during the 2023 gubernatorial election, the Governor has shown magnanimity by appointing qualified individuals from the area and planning key infrastructural projects for several local governments in Kogi East.

While congratulating the newly appointed APC Zonal Chairman, the Deputy Governor advised him to steer clear of rumors and baseless accusations, especially with the 2027 elections approaching, warning that misinformation could damage the party’s credibility and unity.
