The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has revealed that the era of using students as instruments of destabilization in the country is over as the association is committed to the nation’s development strategies.
NANS Vice President of National Affairs, Comrade Muhammed Y Sabo, disclosed during an event organized by the association to mark Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day held in Kano.
According to him, the occasion has provided an avenue to reflect on the journey since 1960 and the resilient spirit that binds us as one united, indivisible Nigeria.
“Our structures across the country, particularly in northern Nigeria, are fully behind the existence of one Nigeria.
“We will not allow any individual or group to use Nigerian students as instruments of destabilization, that era is over.
“We remain resolute in our commitment to peace, national unity, and peaceful coexistence,” he said.
He explained that the association is aware of the challenges that besiege Nigeria as a country, such as economic hardship, insecurity, poverty, and the numerous socio-political dilemmas posing as threats to the nation’s collective aspirations adding that despite these adversities and the foreboding predictions of naysayers, both internal and external, the country continue to stand tall.
“We stand together, having proven wrong those who wished for our disintegration. Our survival as a united nation is a testament to the indomitable will of our people and the spirit of one Nigeria.
“Today, we celebrate our resilience, achievements, and capacity to overcome adversity. We acknowledge the bold reforms being undertaken by the Nigerian administration.
“These reforms are essential, albeit challenging, and we urge the government to provide greater intervention for students and the general populace,” he concluded.
