Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, on Friday, launched a N1 billion Youth Empowerment Scheme for GSM operators in Maiduguri.
According to the Governor, its “a strategic investment in human capital development”, which he noted will restore the dignity of the beneficiaries after the prolonged conflict in the state that led to the loss of livelihoods.
The Governor said more than 5,000 youths will benefit from the current empowerment programme, which includes training in financial management, digital skills, modern business practices, and customer relations to ensure sustainable impact.
The Nation reports that the event which took place at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim College of Education Theater Hall Maiduguri, marked the flag-off of the initiative, and was attended by thousands of youth beneficiaries all beaming with smiles and gratitude to the Governor.
“This Empowerment initiative is beyond financial support. It is designed to restore dignity, renew hope, and strengthen the economic base of the state, particularly among youths and small-scale,” Gov Zulum declared during his speech.
He explained that the true wealth of any society lies in the skills, creativity, and determination of its people, just as he vowed his administration’s commitment to human capital development.
