Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has approved full scholarships for indigenes of the state to study at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria.

In a statement, the Executive Secretary of the State Scholarship Board, Professor Rasheedah Liman, said the initiative is part of the administration’s Rescue Mission under the Six-Point Agenda, aimed at revitalising the education sector and building a skilled workforce for the future.

“This initiative aligns with the administration’s Six-Point Agenda and its Rescue Mission, with particular emphasis on strengthening the educational sector and building a highly skilled workforce for the future,” she said.

Professor Rasheedah said the beneficiaries were selected strictly on merit after rigorous examinations and interviews conducted by NCAT.

She said the students will undergo specialised training as standard pilots and aircraft maintenance engineers, adding that the government is committed to providing all academic, financial and welfare support needed for them to excel.

“This strategic investment is aimed at addressing the growing manpower needs of Zamfara State, especially as the aviation sector continues to expand. Upon completion of their studies, the trained pilots and aviation engineers will play critical roles in advancing aviation-related development within the state and contributing to national growth,” she said.

She reiterated the government’s commitment to empowering youths, promoting excellence and improving access to quality education, particularly in specialised technical fields.

Professor Rasheedah added that Governor Dauda Lawal has also pledged to address the challenges facing Zamfara students in tertiary institutions across the country.

“Previously, we went round the institutions across the country and documented all their challenges, which we have forwarded to His Excellency. He is a man of his word; very soon you will see changes,” she said.

The Executive Secretary further disclosed that the state government has secured admission for the deported students from Cyprus who returned to Nigeria.
