Yusuf Attends NASS Plenary as Eight Kano Reps Defect from NNPP to APC

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Tuesday attended plenary at the National Assembly, Abuja, where he witnessed the formal defection of eight members of the House of Representatives from Kano State from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor’s spokesperson, in a statement, the defection was announced on the floor of the House during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.

In separate letters read during the session, the lawmakers cited the internal crisis within the NNPP as the reason for their decision to defect.

The lawmakers who defected include:

1. Hon. Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe (Dawakin Tofa/Rimin Gado/Tofa Federal Constituency)

2. Hon. Garba Ibrahim Diso (Gwale Federal Constituency)

3. Hon. Hassan Shehu Hussain (Nassarawa Federal Constituency)

4. Hon. Idris Dankawu (Kumbotso Federal Constituency)

5. Hon. Muhammad Chiroma Nalaraba (Gezawa/Gabasawa Federal Constituency)

6. Hon. Barr. Rabiu Yusuf (Takai/Sumaila Federal Constituency)

7. Hon. Dr. Ghali Mustapha Tijjani (Albasu/Gaya/Ajingi Federal Constituency)

8. Hon. Barr. Muhammad Bello Shehu (Fagge Federal Constituency)

The event was attended by prominent political figures, including a former Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Sen. Barau I. Jibrin alongside other party leaders and stakeholders.

Governor Yusuf described the development as part of the democratic process, noting that political realignments are not unusual in a vibrant democracy.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Kano State, irrespective of political differences, and emphasized the need for unity and cooperation among elected representatives for the overall development of the state.
