Yobe State commissioner for environment, Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa, has inaugurated 153 Local Government Project Management Committee (LGPMC) members for the 17 local government areas of the state.
Karasuwa, who is also the chairman of the Steering Committee of the Agro-Climatic in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), said the composition of the committee drawn from relevant local government departments include heads of departments, traditional and religious representatives, women and youth group leaders, and representatives of people living with disabilities among others.
The ACReSAL state project coordinator, Shehu Alhaji Mohammed, said the formation of the committee was in line with the ACReSAL mandate to carry communities along in project execution.
He said the federal government had expressed commitment to reclaim four million hectares of degraded lands, out of this number Yobe ACReSAL is to reclaim 100,000 hectares and urged the leaders at the councils to support the committee in discharging their responsibility.
