Construction work on the long-awaited Suleja–Minna road project is set to commence on Monday, March 16, 2026, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has announced.

Bologi Ibrahim, spokesperson to Governor Bago, in a statement on Monday, said Umahi disclosed this during a meeting with the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, who visited him for a follow-up discussion on the implementation plan for the project.

The minister said funds for the mobilization of contractors have already been made available, urging the contractors to complete the necessary procedures to access the funds and move to the project site without delay.

According to him, the project design has been reviewed, with the road now to be constructed using concrete pavement instead of asphalt in line with global standards for durable road infrastructure.

Speaking further, Umahi revealed that the 7-kilometre Maje–Dikko dual carriageway project has been concessioned under the NNPC Tax Credit Scheme, adding that work on the project is expected to begin soon.

Governor Bago commended the minister for his innovative approach and commitment to ensuring that Nigeria’s road infrastructure meets international standards.

He also assured the minister that the Niger State Government would continue to provide a conducive environment to facilitate the smooth execution of all federal road projects in the state.

The governor further expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the ongoing infrastructural development across the country under his administration.

He, however, appealed for efforts to be intensified to fast-track work on the Niger State segment of the Lagos–Badagry Super Highway project to benefit residents of the state.
