The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has inaugurated a six-week intensive computer training program for staff of the ministry.

Speaking at the inauguration, Comrade Waiya said the program fulfils his commitment to continuous training and retraining of personnel, both within and outside the ministry.

He stressed that building capacity through ICT knowledge is crucial for improving efficiency, productivity, and service delivery.

“Computer literacy is no longer a luxury but a necessity in today’s digital and globalised world. In the era of modern information management systems, there is no way we can operate effectively without ICT.

“It enables us to connect globally, adopt digital solutions, and discharge our duties more effectively,” the Commissioner said.

He explained that the training will equip participants with practical computer skills and revealed that plans are underway to provide each staff member with a computer to ease operations.

He urged participants to take full advantage of the program, adding, “This is a great opportunity. Those who are committed to the training will be the first to benefit from the laptops the ministry intends to provide.

“Don’t waste the resources invested in you; ensure that both the ministry and the state benefit from your skills and knowledge.”

Giving an overview of the program, the Chief Executive Officer of MIK-InfoTech and Training Coordinator, Engineer Mahmud Isah Kawu, said the six-week course is carefully designed to introduce staff to modern digital tools, basic and advanced computer operations, and applications relevant to public service.

He expressed confidence that participants will, by the end of the training, acquire the competence needed to manage digital tasks, handle official correspondence electronically, and support the ministry’s transition to e-governance.

Engineer Kawu commended the foresight of the Commissioner for prioritising staff development and assured that facilitators would deliver training of global standards.
