Former Real Madrid GM Jorge Valdano has disclosed that Los Blancos never gave Xabi Alonso the needed support he deserved in the club.
Recall that Real Madrid axed Xabi two days after losing the Super Cup final to Barca in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Reacting to the development, Valdano in a chat with Marca, stated that a telling sign came during Florentino Pérez’s Christmas speech, in which the president never mentioned the coach by name.
“I saw him unstable from day one; he never felt the club’s support.
Valdano also stated the departure of Luka Modric for AC Milan hurt Xabi this season.
“He had to contend with numerous injuries, and the team lacks a strategist on the pitch.
“When a team loses their midfield general, they also lose on-field leadership.”
