Ukraine, NATO to Discuss New Russian Missile

News Desk

The NATO-Ukraine Council (NUC) is meeting on November 26 in Brussels to discuss Russia’s launching of an experimental hypersonic intermediate-range missile at Ukraine last week.

Radio Free Europe reports that the meeting of envoys from Ukraine and the 32 member states of the alliance was called by Kyiv after Russia on November 21 struck the Ukrainian city of Dnipro with what President Vladimir Putin said was a new missile called Oreshnik.

Putin said the strike was in response to Kyiv’s using Western-supplied long-range missiles to attack targets deeper inside Russia after obtaining a long-sought approval from the United States.

The NUC was established at a NATO summit in Vilnius last year to step up the alliance’s collaboration with Kyiv and support Ukraine’s aspirations for NATO membership.

Separately the western Ukrainian city of Ternopil was left without electricity following a Russian drone attack early on November 26.
