The Director General of the Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA), Pharm. Gali Sule, on Thursday received a high-level delegation from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the Lafiya Program during a working visit to the agency.

The delegation, led by Juliet Whitley, said the visit was aimed at deepening understanding of Kano State’s healthcare priorities and ongoing efforts to strengthen the health system, particularly in the area of commodities security.

She noted that the engagement aligns with the Presidential Initiative on Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC), which seeks to improve access, affordability and sustainability of healthcare commodities across Nigeria.

In his remarks, Pharm. Gali Sule expressed appreciation to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and the Lafiya Program for their sustained support and critical interventions in Kano State’s health sector.

He listed key areas of support to include nutrition initiatives such as Tom Brown production, logistics backing for Integrated Last-Mile Distribution (iLMD) of family planning commodities, and technical assistance in reviewing the Essential Medicines List and pricing policy.

Other interventions highlighted include support for the review of the DMCSA Law 2009 and the provision of a laboratory facility at the agency.

The DG commended the UK Government, through the FCDO and its Lafiya Program implemented by Palladium, for its continued partnership and commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery in the state.

He noted that under the leadership of Dr. Usman Gwarzo, the program has, since 2020, provided consistent technical support aimed at enhancing health systems at both federal and state levels.

The visit, he added, underscores the shared commitment of stakeholders to improving health outcomes and ensuring sustainable access to quality medicines and healthcare services for residents of Kano State.

The meeting forms part of ongoing collaborations to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare value chain and improve service delivery across the country.
