The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the death of two persons in separate search and rescue incidents that occurred on Thursday in Ungogo and Karaye Local Government Areas of the state.
According to a statement by Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer of the Service, the first incident happened at Bachirawa, Kwanar Madugu, in Ungogo Local Government Area.
The Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from one Sulaiman Abdullahi Tela, prompting the immediate deployment of a rescue team from the agency’s headquarters.
On arrival at the scene, firefighters discovered that an 18-year-old man, identified as Yusif Malam Gwani Isah, had fallen into an open water source.
The victim was retrieved from the water unconscious and was later confirmed dead. His remains were subsequently handed over to the Ward Head of Bachirawa quarters, Jibrin Isah.
The second incident occurred at Kofar Yamma in Karaye town, Karaye Local Government Area.
The Karaye Branch Office received a distress call from a staff member of the Service, PFS II Murtala Magaji. A rescue team was immediately mobilized to the scene.
The team found that an eight-year-old boy, Abdussalam Ibrahim, had fallen into a well. He was rescued unconscious but was later confirmed dead.
The deceased was handed over to his father, Malam Musa Mudi.
The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims and urged members of the public to exercise caution around open wells, open water sources, and other hazardous areas, particularly to safeguard children.
