Three weeks prior to the presidential vote, Ayachi Zammel, the presidential candidate, was found guilty on Wednesday of fabricating popular endorsements and was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison, according to Zammel’s attorney to Reuters.
Zammel’s attorney, Abdessattar Massoudi, stated, “The verdict is politically motivated, unfair, and aims to undermine his chances in the presidential race.”
Two weeks ago, Zammel was taken into custody.
