President Donald Trump said Tuesday he plans to launch “very hard” land strikes in Latin America as part of his administration’s effort to curb drug trafficking, arguing that earlier maritime operations have sharply reduced the flow of fentanyl and other narcotics into the United States.
Trump told Fox Business’ Larry Kudlow that his administration first focused on disrupting drug shipments at sea, saying those efforts reduced the flow of fentanyl and other drugs, before turning its attention to operations on land.
He told Kudlow that targeting traffickers on land would prevent them from shifting routes back to maritime smuggling, adding that the next phase would involve more aggressive action against drug networks.
