Troops of the Joint Task Force Northwest, Operation Fansan Yamma, successfully carried out a fighting patrol in response to a distress call from residents and vigilantes in Yar Galadima village, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation was confirmed in a statement by the Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre for Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, which was made available to newsmen in Gusau.
According to the statement, the incident occurred in the early hours of December 1, 2024, when troops from Forward Operating Base (FOB) Hanutara were alerted at around 5 a.m. about a terrorist attack on the village. The troops swiftly responded to provide assistance and restore peace to the area.
“During the patrol, the troops encountered terrorists who had set up ambushes at two different locations on the approach to the village. The ambushes were cleared by the troops, with some terrorists neutralized and others fleeing,” the statement read.
The Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma also quickly deployed aircraft to provide close air support, engaging the fleeing terrorists and neutralizing scores of them as they attempted to escape.
The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of the operation’s commitment to eliminating terrorist threats in the Northwest and Niger State.
