Prominent figures in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, and former Senate President David Mark, are reportedly considering leaving the party.

This revelation came through a communiqué released after a meeting of Concerned PDP Leaders held in Abuja on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by other influential party figures, including former Governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), and Sam Egwu (Ebonyi), among others.

In their joint statement, the leaders criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of failing the nation despite coming to power on what they described as “false and malicious propaganda” aimed at discrediting the PDP.

“The APC, which claimed it would save Nigeria from the PDP, has become a disaster to the nation and must be voted out,” the communiqué read.

The leaders lamented the current state of the country, noting that all key indicators of development have deteriorated, leaving Nigerians in increasingly harsh living conditions.

They also voiced deep concern over the PDP’s internal decline, stating that a party once known for discipline, structure, and capacity has now become “a shadow of its former self.”

According to the communiqué, the pressure from the APC-led Federal Government, through threats, blackmail, and patronage, has pushed many PDP officeholders to abandon the party.

The group called on committed PDP members and other patriotic Nigerians to rally behind a new coalition aimed at rescuing the country and restoring effective leadership.

“The time has come to chart a new course,” the leaders concluded.
