The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribado, has said that President Tinubu’s directives led to the continued crashing of the United States Dollar.

The NSA made the remarks on Thursday in Sokoto while delivering a convocation lecture at Usman Danfodiyo University, titled Navigating the Maze.

He said President Tinubu would continue to use his initiatives to bring down the price of the dollar.

The National Security Adviser also said that the array of insecurity facing northern Nigeria was a result of socio-economic, political, ethnic, and religious tensions.

He said Banditry has significantly evolved from its historical origin integrated into the societal structure becoming more violent amidst the emergence of new weaponry and the crumbling of traditional social structures.

Another factor for the rising issue of insecurity in the core of northern Nigeria according to the national security Adviser is the spread of Islamist insurgencies notably Boko Haram and its offshoots like the Islamic State in West Africa province (ISWAP) which also contributed to the insecure environment in the north.

Ribadu described the intensifying herder/ farmer conflicts driven by climate change, land degradation, and the subsequent competition for dwindling scarce resources.

The Nigerian government’s renewed hope agenda has blended kinetic actions with socio-economic initiatives, underscoring the importance of community engagement and state cooperation within Northern Nigeria as critical to the peace process.

According to him, there are over 300 warlords, each commanding at least 50 fighters operating at different locations in the region.

“Since the assumption of office in 2023, we have freed over a thousand individuals, many of whom are villagers held captives for as long as two to three years.

“We have successfully secured the release of abducted students from the federal University of Guess and school children from Kuriga among others, all these were achieved without paying any ransom through the usage of non-kinetic strategies.”

The federal government has strengthened the administration of criminal justice by reopening trials of Boko Haram terrorism suspects detained in Kainji and other locations across the country in eight different courts.

“On the kinetic front, the Nigerian military is conducting numerous operations targeting insurgent groups such as Biko Haram and bandits operating in northern Nigeria.”

Operations such as Operation Hadin Kai, Operation Safe Haven, Operation Whirl stroke, Operation Hadarin Daji, and Operation Sahel Sanity have all been launched to root out insurgents and criminals from their strongholds.

“Surveillance, reconnaissance, and information gathering, enable security forces to identify and neutralize high-profile terrorist leaders such as Ali Kawaje and Boderi.

“The concerted effort of our gallant military personnel have successfully disrupted existing Cells of criminal terrorists securing the region and diminishing threats to public safety,” the NSA said.
