Food security is a problem that affects not just Jigawa State but the entire nation.
Food Security is the constant availability of enough food, both financially and physically, to meet dietary needs for a productive and healthy life.
People are said to be food secure when they do not live in hunger or fear of hunger. Food insecurity has long-term effects on a family’s capacity to grow and prosper, as well as the ability of communities and nations to prosper. It is frequently a result of poverty.
By 2050, there will be nine billion people on the planet, which presents a significant challenge to bridging the gap in food security. To feed everyone, the world’s food production must double.
According to current estimates, Jigawa State is home to over 7 million people. As a result, there is a pressing need to boost food production to feed the state’s expanding population.
Governor Umar Namadi started the administrative process of encouraging the fascinating civil servants to take up farming.
Food security can only be achieved through mass production agriculture investment.
The government will provide the farming inputs and working capital to the civil servants willing to engage in farming.
According to the governor of Jigawa State, more than 40,000 government employees showed interest in the program.
This advancement will undoubtedly improve food security and address the ongoing, sharp rise in food production.
I agree with Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi that the pressure on food prices would be lessened if at least 50,000 government employees were farming for their families.
Economically speaking, if people can grow the food they need, there will be less of a demand for the goods, which could result in cheaper costs
