The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) has completed at least 687 capital projects at various Nigerian tertiary institutions over the last two years.
Executive Secretary of the fund, Mr. Sonny Echono, disclosed this during the foundation-laying ceremony of the N4 billion Senate Building of the Federal University Kashere (FUK) on Friday.
Echono stated that the projects were in line with the present administration of President Bola Tinubu’s goals of improving the quality of tertiary education in the nation through the provision of befitting infrastructure.
He said President Tinubu approved the Senate building project at FUK as part of his strategic investment in tertiary education.
“TETFund remains firmly committed to supporting institutions like FUK with the necessary resources to grow and thrive.
In the last two and a half years alone, we have completed and inaugurated 687 capital projects in various higher institutions across Nigeria,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor of FUK, Prof. Umaru Pate, lauded TETFUND for the approval of the Senate building, disclosing that the fund has completed the postgraduate hostel building in the school under the 2022 TETFUND annual intervention.
He also acknowledged the construction of a 500-capacity Lecture Theatre, the construction and furnishing of the College of Medical Sciences Complex, among other interventions by the fund.
In his remarks, President Bola Tinubu, represented by Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, who laid the foundation stone for the construction of the N4 billion Senate building at the university, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding access to quality higher education across Nigeria.
He noted that the universities not only provide opportunities for academic excellence but also serve as catalysts for socio-economic development.
