Super Eagles Hold Russia to 1-1 Draw

News Desk

Russia and Nigeria settled for a 1-1 draw in their international friendly clash on Friday, with both sides sharing the spoils in a game marked by moments of intensity and resilience.

Russia took the lead in the 27th minute after Nigerian defender Semi Ajayi inadvertently put the ball into his own net.

The Super Eagles responded in the second half through Tolu Arokodare, who netted the equaliser in the 71st minute to restore parity for Nigeria.

Despite being outplayed in possession — with Russia holding 58% of the ball to Nigeria’s 42% — the Super Eagles showed determination and made the most of their opportunities.

Nigeria managed six shots with four on target, compared to Russia’s 10 shots with only two testing the goalkeeper.

Russia completed 497 passes with an 87% accuracy rate, while Nigeria managed 367 passes at 81% accuracy. The European side committed 16 fouls and received three yellow cards, while Nigeria had 11 fouls and one booking.

Both teams had four corner kicks, but Nigeria was flagged offside three times compared to Russia’s single infringement.
