Staff of Office: Gov Ganduje Urges Emir of Bichi to Promote Peace, Unity

Kano state Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has presented a Staff of Office to the first-class Emir of Bichi, Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, and also urged him to work hard for promoting peace and unity in his emirate and the state in general.

Speaking at the event, the governor expressed his joy as the state witnessed the presenting of Staff of Offices to the three Emirs, that of Rano, Kano and Bichi respectively.

“I am so over-joyed to take part in another historic event, the coronation of another first-class Emir, Alhaji Nasir Ado Bayero, the second Emir of Bichi,” he said.

Dr Ganduje has also appreciated the tremendous contributions of the traditional institutions for promoting peace and stability among the people of Kano state.

It is known that Kano state government, under the leadership of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has created additional four emirates in to the state in order to promote unity as well as infrastructures within the emirates.

“The creation of the four additional emirates, Bichi Emirate Council inclusive, has demonstrated our practical commitment in the promotion of the Institutions in Kano state,” he said.

As momentum is gathering, the governor remembered how significant such event was as he recalled the previous coronations years ago.

“Distinguished guests, one hardly finds opportunity to witness event of this nature in a life time.

“For instance, persons who were born in the late 70s and early 80s in Kano have not witness coronation of a first-class Emir until 2014, which was about four decades when His Highness, the Emir of Kano, late Alhaji Ado Bayero of great memory passed away,” said the governor.

If one might recall that of June 19th, and subsequently 3rd July, Staff of Offices were given to the Emir of Rano, Alhaji Kabiru Inuwa and that of Kano Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero respectively.

Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, the present Emir of Bichi is the son of 13 Fulani Emir of Kano, late Alhaji Ado Bayero who ruled Kano for over 50 years and remained the longest serving emir in the history of Kano state.

Before his turbaning as the Emir of Bichi, Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero was a District Head of Nassarawa and Tarauni Local Government Council. He also held the title of Turaki and Chiroma of Kano.

Dr Ganduje described the Emir of Bichi as a distinguished technocrat, banker and entrepreneur: “Considering his royal pedigree and extraordinary leadership qualities, I am persuaded that Bichi will develop under Nasir Ado Bayero as Emir.”

He urged the emir to rule with justice and avoided anything controversial which might tarnish his esteemed image as a first-class emir and father to all Bichi Emirate, Kano and beyond.

Similarly, he assured other emirs of the state that his administration will continue with its effort to transform and repositioning the traditional institutions in Kano state.

The governor has, however, asked for the support and cooperation of the Emir and other Emirs in the state, to continue to assist the government in providing security for lives and property.

Lastly, he prayed to Allah to grant the wisdom and good health to reign very successful.

President Muhammad Buhari, represented by his Chief-of-Staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari congratulated the emir and reposed confidence in him by expressing hope that his reign will bring bountiful gains and development in Bichi Emirate.

“We have been asked by President Muhammadu Buhari to lead the delegation of the Federal Government to participate in this occasion.

“On behalf of the President and the government of Nigeria, I wish to congratulate the people of Bichi and the Emir of Bichi on his coronation.”

The president added that “Your father was a symbol of unity. Follow and exhibit your father’s leadership qualities. I pray for your success and contribution to uplifting the well-being of the people in Bichi Emirate and Nigeria in general.”

In his remarks, Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar III, congratulated the Emir and urged him to lead with justice and equity.

He also commended Governor Ganduje for providing democratic dividends to the people of Kano state and thanked him for giving immense support to the traditional institutions.

In his speech, the new Emir, Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, expressed his gratitude to the people who came from far distance to witness such even, adding that he will lead his people with just and fairness.

He promised to continue seeking the interventions of state, federal and local governments for initiating new roads, supply of water resources, new Islamic and western schools and places of worship within the emirates and beyond.

He also promised to work hard for bringing developmental projects and poverty alleviation for the well-being of his people.

Alhaji Bayero has called on government and other development partners, to continue to contribute their quota in addressing desertification in the emirate.

‘I am calling on people to send their children to schools and also report any suspicious person to the traditional institutions and relevant security agencies for proper action,” he added.

The event, which took place at Bichi Stadium, was attended by Chief of Staff to the Federation, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, Maimala Buni, the National APC Caretaker Chairman, Minister of Defence, Aviation, and Water Resources, state governors, traditional rulers, members of national and state assemblies, as well as business men and women all over the country.
