Sokoto State Police Command has warned residents of the state against any form of procession or Protest in connection with the tribunal verdict scheduled to be pronounced on Saturday.
In a statement signed by the acting Command public relations officer ASP Ahmad Rufa’e, the police warned stakeholders and politicians not to engage in any act capable of derailing the already fragile peace in the state.
It could be recalled according to the statement the State Governorship election petition Tribúnal has set aside Saturday the 30th of September to deliver Judgment on the petition filed by the PDP Gubernatorial candidate Saidu Umar challenging the elegebility of Gov. Ahamed Aliyu and his Deputy Idris Mohammed Gobir to contest and win the March 18 2023 election in Sokoto state.
“It has come to our attention that there may be intentions to hold processions or celebrations in relation to the event.
“While we understand the significance of this occasion, we must prioritize the safety and security of all citizens.” says the police.
“Sokoto State has earned a reputation as one of the most peaceful states in our great nation, and we intend to maintain that dignity.”
“I want to make it unequivocally clear that any form of procession or gathering that violates the law or disrupts the peace will not be tolerated.”
“The law enforcement agencies are prepared and fully equipped to protect lives and properties of the citizens.”
The command urged the good people of Sokoto State to remain law-abiding and to promptly inform the police and other relevant security authorities about any potential issues or concerns related to the event.
