Sokoto Police Command Gets Reinforcement Ahead of Gubernatorial Elections

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba has deployed additional state-of-the-earth anti-riot and crowd management equipment, police mobile force, special forces personnel, and crowd control asset to checkmate political thuggery and related electoral offenses to secure the forthcoming Elections in Sokoto.

The Police in Sokoto is now fully prepared for the Gubernatorial and state Assembly Elections, says CP Gumel as Sokoto residents should forget about the peddling rumours going around that there is no adequate security at polling units for voters to cast their votes to persons of their choice freely without intimidation.

Gumel further said the command has commenced training of elections security personnel on the use of the newly acquired anti-riot equipment.

“The Inspector-General of Police Baba has boosted the strength of Sokoto Police Command in areas of personnel, anti-riot equipment, armoured personnel carrier (APC), and additional operational vehicles in preparation for the forthcoming Gubernatorial and state Assembly Elections.”

“The equipment and personnel will help in the collaboration required between the police and other security agencies for in the forthcoming Governorship and state House of Assembly Elections scheduled to hold on the 18th of March, 2023.”

 “The Units of Police Mobile Force, Special Forces, and Armoured Personnel have since arrived in the state together with the APCs and gun-trucks among other operational vehicles purposely to augment the existing security architecture.”

According to him the reinforced Security in the state will adequately checkmate political thuggery and related crimes before, during, and after the polls.

“It’s the command’s desire for full utilization of these assets and has embarked on training and retraining of all its personnel on this anti-riot equipment and get them prepared to tackle head-on any group who may want to plan for indulging on any act of mayhem during the poll.

In view of these developments, the Commissioner of Police Sokoto State Command, CP Muhammed Usaini Gumel FIPMA, is assuring members of the public to keep calm and at the same time warning troublemakers to stay away from causing problems during the polls.

“The Command will use all necessary forces and would do everything within their operational guidelines in conjunction with the Military and other security agencies to subdue any unwanted act that will disrupt the poll comes 18th march, 2023”
