The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Sokoto state command has in collaboration with Castle Wings Global Services Limited (CWGSL) conducted a sensitization campaign on drugs and other narcotics abuse among youths and women in schools.
The anti-drug sensitization was sponsored by the Office of the Clerk, Senate Committee on Drugs and Narcotics was conducted at Sani Dingyadi Unity Secondary school aimed at counseling youths on the ills and dangers of drug abuse, especially among students of secondary schools in the state.
The aim of the sensitization is to keep safe Schools in Sokoto, free of drugs and substance abuse among students and other vulnerable groups in the state
Addressing the gathering of students and staff at the occasion, the Zonal Commander of the Agency in charge of Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states Malam Misbahu Idris blamed parents for moral decadence of their wards which he said led them into drugs and other social vices.
He said parents now these days have a significant role to play in the moral upbringing of their children be they male or female when it comes to social status in schools and places of work, adding that they should not shy away from their responsibilities.
“You must know the kinds of people or friends your child is moving with, saying that some schools are beginning to turn into breeding grounds for doctoring youths into drugs, especially tertiary institutions”
The Zonal Commandant further stated that NDLEA in the three states is all out to change the narratives through advocacy and sensitization of Youths and other vulnerable groups, women and girls inclusive.
In his address, the state Commandant of the NDLEA Adamu Iro Mohammed described the collaboration between the Agency and Castle Wings Global Services Limited, as timely especially now that, drugs and substance abuse is becoming so rampant even among Girls and women in matrimonial homes.
He said NDLEA is all out to carry out its constitutional mandate of fighting wanton abuse of drugs and other illicit substances among Youths who were supposed to be future leaders but are being engulfed by political thuggery.
Mohamed described drug abuse as evil, while commending the Clerk of the Senate Committee on Drugs and Narcotics, Alhaji Garba Idris for the sponsorship, and urged other good-spirited organizations and well-meaning individuals to emulate.
“We have to counsel youth to understand that anyone who indulges in drugs does not live a successful life as drugs affect not only the user but his family and the immediate community around him.
“It leads to loss of dignity, and focus, and severe health complications such as loss of memory and psychological imbalance.
The representative of the Secretary of the Senate, Mr. Yusuf Salisu said the partnership with NDLEA is part of Castle Wings Global Services Limited’s policy of discouraging the consumption and abuse of hard drugs, including methamphetamine among Youths.
While commending the NDLEA, he also urged youths in schools around the state and Communities to say no to drugs, with a view to building a better society and generation that Nigeria would be proud of in the years ahead.
Speaker after speaker expressed concern over the current spate of drugs abuse in society especially among Youths and women while calling on the government at all levels to do the needful and collaborate with the NDLEA in its fight to free society from the evils and shackles of drugs and Narcotics
