The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) kicked off its 22nd Annual ICT Quiz Competition for Kano State public secondary school students on Friday at the Mahmud Tukur Theatre, BUK Old Site.
Representing the Executive Director of CITAD, Engr. Y.Z. Ya’u, the Senior Officer of Programs, Isa Garba, announced that about 20 schools from 44 local governments in Kano are participating in this year’s competition.
In his opening remarks, Ya’u emphasized that the competition aims to draw the attention of the government and stakeholders to the urgent need for ICT infrastructure in schools, to bridge the digital divide both within the country and globally.
Sagir Mohammad, Managing Director of Inter System Nigeria Limited, also spoke at the event, highlighting the importance of introducing ICT to students at a young age.
He stressed the benefits of early engagement with technology and the critical role it plays in today’s information age.
“Whatever we can do as the private sector and civil society organizations to motivate secondary school students, we do. That is why CITAD has been organizing this quiz for the past 22 years,” Mohammad stated.
Kano Times reports that the quiz is part of a broader effort by CITAD to combat ICT illiteracy in Kano State.
The competition concluded with Sani Bello Science College, Dawakin Kudu, taking first place and winning a brand new laptop.
New Girls Science College, Kano, secured second place and was awarded a three-in-one desktop computer, while Government Science Technical College, Warawa, came in third and received a wireless public address system.
