Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, on Sunday, hosted a high-level United States Congressional delegation in Abuja as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation on counter-terrorism and regional security.

The visit follows earlier engagements between Ribadu and U.S. officials in Washington, D.C., where both sides discussed shared security priorities.

The Congressional team on the fact-finding mission comprised Rep. Mario Díaz-Balart, Rep. Norma Torres, Rep. Scott Franklin, Rep. Juan Ciscomani, and Rep. Riley M. Moore.

Also present was the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, underscoring the strategic importance America places on its security partnership with Nigeria.

According to Ribadu, discussions during the meeting centred on deepening counter-terrorism cooperation, enhancing regional stability in West Africa, and boosting Nigeria–U.S. strategic security collaboration amid evolving global threats.

He described the engagement as productive and timely, expressing optimism that it would lead to more coordinated actions between both countries.

“We are committed to building stronger ties with the United States. This engagement will deepen trust, collaboration, and our shared commitment to peace and security,” Ribadu said.

The meeting comes at a time when Nigeria continues to intensify efforts against terrorism, violent extremism, and transnational crime threatening stability across the West African sub-region.

The visit by the U.S. lawmakers is expected to further consolidate joint initiatives, intelligence cooperation, and support mechanisms between the two nations.

The delegation is in Nigeria to assess progress in security reforms, evaluate areas of partnership, and strengthen legislative understanding of Nigeria’s security challenges.

Their visit signals a renewed commitment by Washington and Abuja to broaden cooperation in tackling emerging threats and reinforcing long-term regional stability.
