News Desk

Over 7,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Borno State have benefited from Ramadan palliatives distributed through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), spearheaded by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The flag-off event took place at Muna IDP Camp in Jere Local Government Area.

The First Lady of Borno State, Dr. Falmata Babagana Umara Zulum, represented Senator Oluremi Tinubu at the event. In her remarks, she emphasized the compassion and commitment embodied by the Renewed Hope Initiative, aimed at uplifting the lives of displaced and vulnerable Nigerians.

She highlighted that the initiative is particularly significant during the holy month of Ramadan, a time for reflection, sacrifice, and compassion. The distribution of food items serves as a reminder of solidarity, urging everyone to extend hands of charity and support to those in need.

Dr. Falmata Zulum acknowledged the hardships endured by IDPs due to insurgency, which has led to mass displacement, loss of lives, and destruction of communities. She reaffirmed the Borno State Government’s commitment to ensuring the palliatives reach the intended beneficiaries, alongside efforts to provide education, healthcare, and empowerment programs for IDPs to rebuild their lives.

On behalf of Borno women, she expressed heartfelt gratitude to Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her generosity and unwavering support for the people of Borno. She also called on well-meaning individuals, organizations, and corporate bodies to support the initiative and contribute to the rebuilding of Borno State.

In their welcome addresses, Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, Chairperson of Jere Local Government, Hajiya Inna Galadima, and Hajiya Yabawa Kolo commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for their commitment to restoring peace and supporting IDPs.

The event underscores the Federal and Borno State Governments’ dedication to providing relief and rebuilding communities, ensuring that IDPs receive the necessary support, security, and resources to return home and rebuild their lives.

The occasion was attended by the Acting Director General of Borno Emergency Management agency, Borno State APC Women Leader, Permanent secretaries and other high-ranking government officials.
