Operatives of the Police Task Force on Illegal Mining in Zamfara State have arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with the unlawful possession of suspected explosive materials.
According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the arrest was carried out on 27 January 2027, at about 4:15 p.m., following credible and actionable intelligence.
During the operation, the suspect, identified as Mustapha Mohammad, was intercepted while driving a Toyota Corolla.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 954 pieces of suspected explosive materials, which were concealed in polyethylene bags.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the items were intended for use by bandits as Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
The suspect is currently in police custody, while the recovered exhibits have been secured and formally handed over to the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team for safe custody and detailed examination.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the source and intended destination of the explosives, as well as to uncover the full network behind the crime and apprehend other possible accomplices.
