The Rivers State Police Command yesterday said a female teenager who was abducted, drugged and abandoned at the Government Residential Area (GRA) of Port Harcourt, capital city of the State has been rescued.
The spokesperson of the Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, who disclosed this yesterday, in Port Harcourt, also said that the command recovered firearms and ammunition in Ahoada area of the state.
Iringe-Koko explained that “Police Command recently rescued a 16yr old girl named Faith Mimido Temkwa who was allegedly drugged and abandoned by an unknown persons at No 3 Birabi Street, GRA, off Presidential Hotel Port Harcourt.”
She recalled that two weeks ago “the Police Command responded swiftly to a distress call from a good Samaritan thereby mobilising Operatives from the Olu-Obasanjo Division led by the Divisional Police Officer, (DPO) to the scene where the victim was met in a state of unconsciousness.”
According to the police spokesperson, the victim was immediately taken to a medical facility for treatment and after regaining her memory, concerted efforts were further made to locate her parents and she was safely reunited with them for proper care and custody.
She added: “Investigation is ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime to face the full wrath of the law.”
The spokesperson said the successful rescue operation demonstrates the Command’s commitment to serving and protecting individuals and combating crime in the State.
The Command, however, advised residents in the State to report any suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station.
In another development, the PPRO said an Inspector of Police attached to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ahoada, showcased exceptional vigilance while on station guard duty.
“He noticed a suspicious individual carrying a black colour bag and signaled him to approach, but the man fled, abandoning the bag on the road after he was given a hot chase.
“The bag was recovered to the station and upon a thorough search of it, the following items were found: One Brownie English made Pistol, 15 Rounds of 7.62mm Live Ammunition, One Eco Bank ATM debit card, One FCMB ATM debit card and a quantity of items suspected to be charms.
Iringe-Koko also revealed that the Police are currently investigating and working assiduously to apprehend the suspect and other gang members, adding that “The Command remains calm and continues to monitor the situation closely.”
