News Desk

The police have announced a major breakthrough in Jigawa State, as joint security operatives conducted a successful raid on a criminal hideout in Digawa village, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of 14 suspects and the recovery of incriminating items.

It could be recalled that on June 11, 2025, the Jigawa State Police Command had reported another incident involving fraudsters from Digawa village, who attacked Dumus village, resulting in the death of one Isma’il Ibrahim, 60, and injuring eight others.

According to a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Dutse, the state capital, by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, the operation, which took place on June 12, 2025, the democracy day, resulted in the arrest of 14 male suspects and the recovery of incriminating items.

According to the statement, the raid followed credible intelligence reports about a syndicate involved in fraudulent practices and other criminal acts within the region.

Adam also said the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing a thorough investigation, after which they will be arraigned in court.

“This operation underscores the commitment to safeguarding communities and rooting out criminal elements,” he explained in the statement, adding, “The raid is a follow-up to a previous incident where fraudsters from Digawa village attacked Dumus village, resulting in one death and eight injuries.

“Corpse and injured persons were ferried to Federal Medical Centre Birnin Kudu for autopsy and medical attention respectively.”

Items recovered during the raid, according to the police spokesperson, include: “Nine fabricated pistols, 27 Dane guns, 37 gun pieces, four motorcycles, 12 pieces of fake USD.”

Other recovered and confiscated exhibits from the suspects are: “188 pieces of Central African Currency suspected to be fake, bow and arrow, metals, animal skin, file, saw, vice, blower and other criminal charms.”

Furthermore, Adam highlighted that the suspects will face the full wrath of the law once investigations are concluded.

However, the police urge the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities promptly, saying, “The police command is determined to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
