The Kano State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing fight against crime, including the interception of an illegal firearm and ammunition, the arrest of five suspected armed robbers, and the recovery of a stolen cow and ram.
The Command said the operations were carried out within the last 24 hours in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on community policing, intelligence-led operations and proactive crime prevention.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on 13 August 2026, operatives of the Dorayi Babba Police Division acted on information from a member of the public and stormed Rijiyar Zaki Motor Park at about 2:30 p.m.
A search of a suspicious parcel led to the recovery of one Tokarev pistol loaded with 48 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.
The suspect reportedly confessed during interrogation that the firearm and ammunition were purchased in another state and were being transported to another person outside Kano.
The Police said investigation was ongoing to identify and arrest other persons connected to the illegal arms supply chain.
In a separate operation on the same day, operatives of the Rogo Police Division arrested five suspected armed robbers at Jajaye Village in Rogo Local Government Area.
The suspects were identified as Basiru Ibrahim, 25; Saidu Madaki, 23; Sa’adu Ibrahim, 25; Lawan Yusuf, 24; and Muktar Salisu, 21.
Preliminary investigation, according to the Police, linked the suspects to four cases involving criminal trespass, conspiracy and armed robbery in Jajaye Village and neighbouring communities.
The Command said the suspects were also alleged to have stolen about five motorcycles and other valuables, while their activities reportedly resulted in serious injuries to some victims.
The suspects will be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
Meanwhile, the Gaya Police Division recovered a stolen cow and ram and arrested suspected members of a livestock theft syndicate.
The Police said Hamisu Garba of Yanduji reported the theft of his cow at about 6:30 a.m. on August 13, while Maikudi Adamu of Jobe, Gaya, reported the theft of his ram at about 1:30 p.m.
A patrol team subsequently intercepted Karimu Mamman and another suspect in possession of the stolen animals at Jube Village.
Further investigation led to the arrest of two additional suspected members of the syndicate.
The Police said the suspects had been charged to court for prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended residents of Kano State for providing timely information that contributed to the successful operations.
He also praised officers and men of the Dorayi Babba, Rogo and Gaya divisions for their professionalism and commitment to duty.
CP Bakori assured residents that the Command would sustain community policing, intelligence gathering and collaboration with other security agencies to ensure the safety and security of the state.
