The Kano State Police Command has distributed 17 cheques worth N7,573,231.83 to families and next-of-kin of police officers who died in the line of duty under the Group Life Assurance Scheme.

The cheques were presented on Monday, October 19, 2026, by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, at the Command’s headquarters in Bompai, Kano State.

The beneficiaries comprised 17 families of deceased police officers who died while discharging their lawful duties.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday.

According to the statement, the initiative forms part of the welfare package of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at supporting families of officers who paid the supreme price in service to the nation.

Presenting the cheques on behalf of the IGP, CP Bakori said the gesture demonstrated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring that the sacrifices of fallen officers were not forgotten.

He reaffirmed the Force’s determination to improve the welfare of serving personnel and the families of deceased officers through its comprehensive welfare scheme.

The commissioner urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds and maintain relationships with the friends and colleagues of their deceased relatives.

“Every soul shall taste death. While I urge the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the benefits, you should try to visit the friends of your relative. The end of their life should not be the end of the good relationship you had with their friends,” he said.

CP Bakori also assured the beneficiaries that his office remained open to assist whenever necessary.

He further pledged that the Command would continue to prioritise the welfare of its officers and men, while ensuring the prompt processing and payment of entitlements due to deceased and injured personnel.

The commissioner added that additional welfare packages were being planned for families of fallen officers.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, ASP Ado Sule (rtd.), who received a cheque on behalf of his deceased wife, a female police officer, thanked the Inspector-General of Police and the Kano commissioner for their support.

He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed officers.

Members of the Command Management Team, senior police officers, and families of the deceased personnel attended the ceremony.
