The Kano State Police Command has debunked the widespread claims surrounding a viral social media video purported to show the recent arrest of a suspected kidnapper known as “Ali Kwara,” stating that the footage is from 2019.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Command explained that the video currently circulating was originally recorded during an open media interview at the Bompai Police Headquarters in 2019.

According to the statement, the interview featured the late journalist Abubakar Dahiru Yakasai, alongside then–Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations, now retired CP Balarabe Sule.

The suspect, “Ali Kwara,” had been arrested at Diga, Panshekara Quarters, in connection with multiple kidnapping and armed robbery cases.

He voluntarily confessed to the crimes during the police investigation, and the video formed part of a public briefing to update residents on ongoing security operations.

The Command urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid sharing misleading content capable of creating fear or panic.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Kano Police Command advised residents to always verify information before circulating it and to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, expressed appreciation for the continued cooperation and timely information provided by residents, noting that such support remains crucial to sustaining peace and security across the state.
