Police Arrested 2425 Criminals in Kano — CP

The Kano State Police Command said it arrested no fewer than 2,425 suspected criminals and recovered firearms, weapons, illicit drugs, and stolen properties, among other exhibits.

The command said the arrests were made from January to December 2024.

The State Police Commissioner, Salman Garba, disclosed this while addressing a news conference at the Police Command headquarters in Bompai on Tuesday.

“From 1st January to 31st December 2024, a total of two thousand, four hundred and twenty-five (2,425) suspects were arrested with recovery of firearms, dangerous weapons, illicit drugs, stolen properties, and other exhibits, “ he said.

According to him, the breakdown of the arrests included 189 armed robbery suspects, 34 suspected kidnappers, 10 suspected cattle rustlers and two suspected gun runners.

Others he said were 22 motor vehicle thieves, 58 suspected drug dealers, 18 human trafficking suspects, 46 tricycle thieves, 28 motorcycle thieves, 4 suspects arrested for forgery, 27 suspected fraudsters and 1,987 suspected thugs (Yan Daba).

Similarly, the Command had rescued a total of 40 human trafficking victims, 13 kidnapping victims and two abduction victims.

He added that seven AK-47 Rifles, one Beretta pistol, one pump action rifle, four Dane guns, seven locally made guns, four toy Guns, 1,213 live ammunition, 57 cutlasses and 198 sharp knives were recovered.

Other recoveries were 12 motor vehicles, 44 motorcycles, 15 tricycles and fake currencies amounting to N129 billion among others.

“At the beginning of the year, there were security challenges across the 44 LGAs of the State, including the threat of infiltration of Bandits, Kidnapping and Armed Robbery along the villages in 17 frontline border LGAs of the States bordering Kaduna, Katsina, Jigawa and Bauchi States.

“In line with the directives and guidance of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the general security situation of the State was carefully assessed and critically analysed demographically crime-mapped.

“An action plan was designed to effectively police the State. The following strategies were incorporated in the Command’s action plan: robust community policing engagements, sustenance of targeted clearance operations, Intelligence-led and visibility policing, Synergy with sister security agencies and strategic communication in public enlightenment and sensitisation.

“The Command will continue to; intensify community policing engagements, engage in robust Intelligence-led policing, conduct targeted clearance operations and carry massive public enlightenment and sensitisation to meet the dynamic security demand of the state,” he added.
