The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspect accused of circulating audio and video clips containing statements capable of inciting public disorder and creating fear among residents of Kano.

In a statement issued on March 5, 2026, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said the command intercepted reports of the circulating materials and immediately launched a sting operation that led to the suspect’s arrest.

According to the police chief, the suspect is currently undergoing interrogation as investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged publication.

“The Command views the inflammatory statement seriously and the suspect will be made to face the full weight of the law at the end of the investigation,” Bakori said.

He condemned the creation and spread of such content, warning individuals involved in disseminating false or inciting information to desist immediately.

“The Command strongly condemns the creation and dissemination of such inflammatory content and warns individuals involved to cease immediately, as any person found spreading false information will be arrested, investigated and prosecuted accordingly,” he added.

Bakori stressed that the police would not tolerate any form of hate speech, incitement, or violence capable of threatening public peace.

Meanwhile, the police command assured residents that adequate security measures had been put in place across the state to prevent any breach of peace.

“The Command is working closely with other security agencies to monitor the situation and respond promptly to any incident,” he said, assuring the public that there was no cause for alarm.

Residents were urged to remain calm and vigilant while reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, 08076091271, and 09029292926.

The police commissioner also appealed to community and religious leaders, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders to promote peace and understanding among residents.

“I appeal to our community and religious leaders, traditional rulers, and all stakeholders to promote peace and understanding among residents,” Bakori said.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing as the police intensify efforts to maintain peace and security across Kano.
