Plateau State Government is set to deploy another 15 metro buses as part of ongoing efforts to ease economic hardship by providing affordable transportation for residents.

The new buses are an expansion of the initial 15 introduced last year under the Caleb Mutfwang-led administration.

Group Managing Director of Plateau Express Services Limited, Samuel Gwott, disclosed this during an interview with journalists in Jos, describing the launch of Tincity Metro 2.0 as a major turning point for public transportation in the state.

According to Gwott, more than 2.5 million passengers benefited from Phase 1 of the metro service, which offered reliable and affordable mobility.

The upgraded version, he said, introduces technology-driven features designed to make commuting “faster, smarter, and more seamless.”

He credited the transformation in the transport sector to the leadership of Governor Mutfwang, noting that the new phase aims to modernize urban mobility and significantly reduce the daily challenges faced by commuters.

Gwott highlighted several improvements under Metro 2.0, including Virtual cards and online top-up to eliminate long queues, real-time bus tracking, estimated arrival times, and digital route maps via a new mobile app.

Multiple payment options, including digital wallets and virtual cards, and expanded routes covering key economic, residential, healthcare, and educational areas.

The new strategic routes include Kugiya Market, JUTH – Terminus → Mararaban Jama’a, and Rayfield → Dogon Karfe.

More routes will be added monthly as the fleet grows. Route choices, Gwott added, were guided by commuter demand, population density, and economic relevance.

The new commuter cards come with enhanced durability, modern design, NFC compatibility, improved tap-and-go response time, and incentives for first-time users.

The platform also ensures secure, cashless transactions, prevents overpayment, and offers a reliable, pocket-friendly fare system.

Gwott emphasized that the upgrade reflects a simple vision: urban mobility must be accessible, smart, and people-centered.
