The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has presented relief materials to the Plateau State Government for onward distribution to victims of the Angwan Rukuba attack in Jos North Local Government Area.

The intervention is aimed at providing immediate assistance to affected persons and supporting their recovery as they work to rebuild their lives and resume normal activities.

Presenting the items at the Old Government House in Rayfield, Jos, the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, represented by the North Central Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Adebiyi B. Razaq, said the support was approved as part of the Federal Government’s response to the tragic incident.

She explained that NEMA’s Operations Office in Jos conducted a detailed assessment to determine the scale of destruction and the specific needs of survivors, which informed the relief package.

Items delivered include 1,000 bags of 25kg rice, 300 bags of 25kg beans, 165 cartons of spaghetti, 100 cartons of vegetable oil, seasoning cubes, tomato paste, iodized salt, detergent, and dignity kits. Others are wax prints, Guinea brocade, 200 foam mattresses, and various medical supplies, including silver sulphadiazine cream and antibiotics.

Receiving the materials on behalf of the state, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang assured that the items would be distributed promptly and transparently to those affected.

The governor expressed appreciation to NEMA for its timely intervention and commended the agency’s collaboration with the state government.

He noted that while the state deeply regrets the occurrence of such incidents, governments at all levels must remain prepared to respond effectively to emergencies.

“It is the responsibility of the government to come to the aid of the vulnerable so they can rebuild their lives. We appreciate the Director-General for this support and assure that all items provided will be judiciously managed and delivered to the rightful beneficiaries,” he said.

The relief effort underscores ongoing cooperation between federal and state authorities in addressing humanitarian challenges and supporting communities affected by violence.
