Para-Games 2023: Kano Athletes Kick Started on Good Note

Kano State para athletes participating in the 2nd National Para Games held in Abuja have started on a good note.

On Saturday which is the 1st day of the para-games, the Kano State Amputee Football team defeated the Plateau State team by 5 goals to 1.

Similarly, the Kano sitting volleyball team defeated the Kaduna State team by 3 sets to 1.

Kano State had registered to feature in 12 out of the 15 sporting events in the 2023 Para Games. The events in which Kano State is set to include; Para Soccer, Para Shooting, Para Taekwondo, Para Karate, and Para Power Lifting. Others are Amputee Football, Sitting Volleyball, Para Athletics, Para Canoeing, Para Swimming, para Table Tennis, and Wheel Chair Table Tennis.

This is the second edition of the Para-Sports games organized by the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports for Persons with Disabilities.

The games are aimed at giving people with disability (PWD) in sports a sense of belonging and the opportunity to exhibit their potential.

It will be recalled that in the maiden edition, Team Bayelsa State emerged first, followed by Team Oyo State second, while Team Kano State under the former Kano State Sports Commission Chairman Alh. Ibrahim Galadima finished third with a total of 42 medals consisting of 21 gold, 13 silver, and 8 bronze medals.

The sports festival is scheduled to finish on 16 December 2023.
