Peering Advocacy and Advancement Center in Africa (PAACA) has organized a zonal town hall meeting on the 2023 general elections with traditional and moral institutions to discuss the post elections activities.
The event which was held on Tuesday had representatives from Civil Society Organizations, Political Parties, Security Agencies, and Religious and Traditional Leaders.
The Director of the Political Civic Ethics and Values Department, NOA, Mr. Adelaja Adeola commended the effort of the Kano state government towards maintaining peace before, during, and after the elections, adding that NOA held several engagements with stakeholders in preparation for the general election.
“Our first peace-building outing in preparation for and conduct of the 2023 election was held in Kano just a week after the presidential election and before the gubernatorial election.
“We in NOA firmly believe that the campaign against electoral violence is gradually taking root in our system. More than two months after the elections, we have not witnessed any serious conflict resulting from that election and the fact that almost all contenders have invested their hope in the courts of our land speaks loudly of the evolving culture of peace in our democratic system.”
Adeola noted that the agency monitored the election in almost every ward in Nigeria.
The reports which were collated from our field officers, Community Orientation and Mobilisation Officers (COMOS) showed a number of progress in the 2023 Elections conduct, she added.
In his goodwill message, Kano State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Amb. Abdu Zango, represented by AA Maulud, PRO, Kano INEC, said the Commission is currently dealing with post-election activities.
“We had credible and successful elections in Kano and also emphasized on all political leaders be acquainted with the new electoral act.
“Also, INEC had recorded success in handling its Ad-hoc staff, by paying over 97% of them who participated in the Kano elections.
He disclosed that INEC has finished its declaration, “the only issue we have now is litigation,” he added.
The highlights of the event include; questions and answers, and panel sessions with participants.
The penal discussion session provided updates and key findings from the 2023 general elections.
