The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that more than 360,000 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) remain uncollected in Kano State.

The State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Ambassador Abdu Zango, revealed this on Saturday while receiving a high-powered committee set up by the Kano State Government to drive public awareness on the ongoing voter registration exercise.

The committee is chaired by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya.

Ambassador Zango urged the committee to intensify sensitization campaigns to encourage citizens to collect their PVCs, stressing that the cards are still in INEC’s custody.

He commended the state government for establishing the committee, noting that its diverse membership and leadership under Comrade Waiya would contribute greatly to the success of the exercise.

He further assured the committee of INEC’s support in achieving its objectives of mobilizing eligible voters for the registration and collection of their PVCs.

In his remarks, Comrade Waiya said the committee was mandated by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to engage all segments of society, including opposition parties, to ensure wide participation in the voter registration exercise.

He appealed to INEC to increase the number of polling units in Kano to reduce congestion on election days and sought the commission’s collaboration to enhance the committee’s work.

Waiya reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for the success of voter registration and voter participation in the state.
