Osun Guber 2026: Youths Want Oyetola as APC Candidate

Osun Youths under the aegis of Congress of Progressive Youth (COPY) has urged all genuine members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the State to make immediate past State Governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola as the party candidate during the forthcoming governorship election slated to hold in the year 2026, saying that the decision would restore the party in the State to the path of honour of its glory and as well return the State to the path of good governance.

While declaring their unwavering support for the candidacy of Gboyega Oyetola or any person presented by Oyetola as the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate.

In a statement issued and signed by the COPY’s Secretary, Comrade Lekan Ibrahim (Legacy), and copies made available to newsmen on Thursday, the reflection on the past governorship election in 2022, where Oyetola experienced defeat on the APC platform.

COPY Chief acknowledged the challenges posed by anti-party activities within the progressive fold led by the former Governor Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, saying that despite this setback, Oyetola’s exemplary performance as Governor during his first term garnered significant support and admiration from the people of Osun State.

According to the group; “Governor Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola’s tenure was marked by remarkable achievements in various sectors including Mineral Resources Development, Education, Infrastructure, Primary Health Care, the Osun Health Insurance Scheme, food support for the vulnerable and agricultural development.

He demonstrated love, support, and acceptance by the people, despite legal challenges, underscoring his popularity and effectiveness as a leader.

“As the 2026 election approaches, COPY firmly believes that Oyetola’s reelection presents the fastest route for youth empowerment and good governance participation.

“The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria grants Oyetola the right to contest for another four-year term, and COPY sees this as an opportunity for youth to progressively take charge of governance, aligning with global trends.

“We advocate for a Christian youth from either Osun West or Osun East as the running mate to Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola, to ensure a balanced representation and embrace a paradigm shift in leadership.

Comrade Ibrahim further stated the group (COPY) committed to mobilizing support for the APC across all the constituencies across the State by complementing the efforts of the party leadership under the able guidance of the State Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, extending a vote of confidence to the party leadership at all levels, from the state level down to the local government areas, wards, and units of the State.

“We call on the people of Osun State to reject the incumbent, whose unpopular policies and extravagant projects have failed to drive progress but instead lead to capital flight from the State. It is time for a renewed vision and pragmatic leadership of Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola.

“We also commend the party for its proactive approach in setting up committees tasked with the responsibility to reconcile, appeal, and discipline rebel elements and moles within the party.

“We urge the party leadership to take decisive action to quarantine those who have strayed from the party’s principles, while also providing an avenue for genuine reconciliation.

“Politics is indeed a game of numbers, and the party must remain united and focused on its objectives, ensuring that all members work towards the common goal of advancing the welfare and progress of Osun State.

“In conclusion, COPY stands united in our support for Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola’s candidacy come 2026 Gubernatorial Election in Osun State, believing in his capacity to lead with integrity, vision, and dedication to the welfare of the people,” the group submitted.
