Online Voter Registration: INEC Calls for Optimum Participation in Sokoto

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has appealed to eligible voters in Sokoto state to come forward and register online.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in charge of the state, Sadiq Abubakar Musa made the appeal while speaking to Stallion Times reporter in Sokoto. 

He said the aims of the exercise is to register eligible voters nationwide and as well provide opportunity for those washing to update or revalidate their voters card ahead of future elections.

According to him the exercise is well going on smoothly in the state despite the activities if bandits in some areas of the state.

He said in Sokoto 2500 eligible voters have so far registered online since when the exercise commenced, while 1, 600,661 have themselves registered online nationwide.

The REC pointed that, the machine in use deployed by the commission for other data capturing is the first of its kind to be use by any country in Africa.

He said by the time the exercise is completed, Nigeria would have a comprehensive and up to date voters register which would be difficult to manipulate.

The online voter registration will reduce congestion at registration centers and will provide ample opportunity for all eligible voters to exercise their civic responsibility at whatever location, the REC said.

On the registration of inmates at correctional homes, the Commissioner explained that, the commission is yet to take decision on the matter including those in diaspora.

He said when the decision is reached by the commission, arrangements would be put in place on how best to all of the registered

The REC further stated that INEC would continue to update their records with a view to ensure credible and Hutch free elections that would be acceptable to all.
