One Year Anniversary: Governor Yusuf Signify Giant Strides On Educational Development – Doguwa

Kano State Commissioner of Education Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa has disclosed that 12 months in office of His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf signified giant strides on the state education sector.

Doguwa stated this while rejoicing with Governor on the occasion of his one year anniversary as the duly elected Governor of Kano State.

In a statement by the Director Public Enlightenment of the Ministry Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, Umar Doguwa asserted that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had proved the people of Kano right in just one year, with his sterling performance especially in promoting the state education sector.

“ As we celebrate your one year remarkable achievements in office, the people of Kano would continue to remember your unparalleled commitment on educational development which makes the state a proud.

” During your one year in office , Kano state government has set aside 29.97% of its 2024 approved budget to the education sector, the highest ever in the history of the state. The government has successfully paid the sum of over one Billion (N1,000,000,000) Naira for kano state indigenes to NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS examination bodies, refurbished 70 grounded Girl child shuttle buses making it easier for students, especially young girls, to commute to school safely and on time ” said the statement. 

It added that efforts made by the state in improving school monitoring at primary and secondary schools had yielded positive results in enhancing the quality of education, stressing that the ministry and its parastatals maintained closely monitoring of schools to ensure that students get the needed attention from their teachers. 

According to the statement, one of the outstanding achievements by the administration had been the total renovation of 11 out of the 42 previously closed boarding schools, a clear demonstration of the present administration’s commitment towards ensuring that every child has access to quality education.

” The administration has embarked on a robust approach to infrastructural development, making it possible to invest in more than 120 secondary schools across the state with a view to creating conducive learning environment for both the students and teachers. 

” Not only that, the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf has implemented various interventions aimed at enhancing the education sector. This includes improving and reviewing the price of foodstuff by 70% of feeding for boarding students to ensure that our students have access to nutritious meals ” the statement revealed.

In trying to equip teachers with the necessary skills, the statement said …” The administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has prioritized teacher training in science and ICT, noting that more than 10,000 teachers have undergone various specialized training programs, equipping them with the tools and knowledge to effectively impart these critical subjects to students “.

The statement however announced that preparation had been completed to declare state of emergency on the education sector, stressing that with this declaration, education would henceforth take a lead, as first line sector that receives government priorities being the bedrock of human development.

” Under this policy, government will commence mass renovations of schools, training and retraining of teachers and provision of instructional materials for onward distribution to schools ” the statement assured.
